Alpha Baking is encouraging our employees to speak with their physician and get vaccinated against COVID 19.  Here are some vaccine FAQs to educate yourself on the vaccine:

Once vaccinated, can I disregard other mitigation measures?

Short answer, NO. Employees will still be required to wear multi-layered masks, per company policy. Masks, social distancing and frequent washing of hands will still be our best defense against the virus.  First, both vaccines currently authorized require two shots over a period of time to reach full efficacy. Second, it is not currently known if the vaccine would preclude one from becoming infected and infecting others with COVID 19.  As such, mitigation measures will remain in place, until federal, state and local health agencies make a determination otherwise.

Will Alpha Baking Company be mandating that employees be vaccinated?

No, Alpha Baking will not be mandating the vaccine for employees, however, we encourage our employees to consult their physicians and get vaccinated to protect themselves, their co-workers and families.

Is the vaccine safe and effective?

Results of double blind studies for both the Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccines indicate 95% and 94.5% efficacy rates, respectively. These studies involved 74,000 people, and panels of experts from the FDA, CDC and other independent government agencies around the world have deemed the vaccines to be not only highly efficacious, but also safe.

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is a traditional vaccine, Adenovirus-based, and requiring only one shot, in contrast to the mRNA based vaccinations requiring ultra-cold storage and two shots for full efficacy. In clinical trials, the global efficacy of Janssen's vaccine was 66% against moderate to severe illness. However, it was 85% effective against severe disease and in trials, 100% effective at preventing hospitalization and death. Importantly, no one who received the vaccine in trials died from Covid-19. The Janssen vaccine has also proven to be effective against currently known COVID-19 variants.

As with any medical procedure, you should contact your doctor to ensure this vaccine is right for you, especially if you have known allergies.

Are there known side-effects?

As with any shot, there is some discomfort at the injection site, and some individuals have symptoms similar to a mild flu (which may indicate that your body’s immune system has been activated and working).  Those side-effects typically disappear after 24-48 hours.  For more information from the CDC on side effects:
